Treats for Dogs

Many dog owners have questions regarding appropriate use of treats and rewards. This post will provide you with the answers for your hound, whatever their breed.

When to treat your pooch?

  • During training. Food is powerful motivation for many dogs and can be very effective in obedience training. While training try to treat with small-sized healthy treats, to avoid loading up on calories.
  • Rewarding for good behaviour. When your pup has behaved well, positive reinforcement with an appropriate treat will promote this behaviour.

Remember dog treats need to be given at the right time and for the right reasons. Exercise, training and playtime are also ways to engage and interact with your dog.

Be sure to offer treats correctly. Food should be bought close to the dog’s nose on an outstretched palm, not waved in the air above him. He should be able to accept it easily from you without jumping or snapping.

Dogs with calorie restrictions should be offered treats with less than 10% of their total diet, only if required for training or to encourage activity and mental stimulation.

Always choose natural meaty treats for your pooch which comes with added advantages.

  • Nutritious and wholesome
  • Great for dental health
  • Tasty as they are made of meat
